The program is tailored to
the individual(s) in attendance,
based on their background and needs.
This group primarily serves as an educational program for those who have little or no knowledge of Orthodoxy. The Newcomer’s Group acts as a program (catechesis) for those interested in being received into Orthodoxy. It also serves those who are not committed to being received into the Church but want to learn more about Orthodoxy. Participants typically gather once a month. The group is led by John Mustric, and Fr. Mark and/or Fr. Dan attend at least a portion of each session.
Resources, such as books needed, are purchased by the participants and privately funded by the leader of the program. The program is tailored to the individual(s) in attendance, based on their background and needs. The program is flexible in setting the number of sessions to be executed and in the pace the material is covered. There are core subjects that are discussed, including Tradition, Orthodox approach to prayer, iconography, ecumenical councils, sacraments, Liturgical worship cycle and services, reading the lives of the saints, daily scripture reading, and attending services. However, the program has added flexibility to allow individuals to choose subjects for discussion. The program continues until an individual is adequately prepared for reception or no longer feels it is necessary to attend sessions.
