liturgical
development
The fourth century witnessed a number of liturgical developments. During this time, the eucharistic prayers of the divine liturgies, named after Saint Basil the Great and Saint John Chrysostom (d.407) were substantially formulated. The catechetical sermons of Saint John Chrysostom together with those of Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (d.386) show that the sacraments of Baptism and Chrismation were being celebrated in the fourth century almost exactly as they are done in the Orthodox Church today.

Patronal Feasts |

To preserve, perpetuate and energize
We seek to preserve, perpetuate and energize the festal cycle of the Orthodox Church as an integral part of our lives as believers at St. Gregory’s. The development of patrons for the great feast days of the church rests on the desire to keep them alive and flourishing at St. Gregory’s. It is a voluntary undertaking and should be perceived as an honor.
This program strives to:
- Observe and celebrate the feast days of the church by providing opportunities for parishioners to be sponsors or patrons of a feast or saint’s day of their interest and choosing.
- Provide more awareness of the festal cycle of the church through education and active engagement and participation, either individually or collectively
- Enhance and to broaden the parish’s involvement in the observances of the feast days.
- Beautify the church with flowers and/or the icon of the Feast/Saint’s day.
- Beautify the exterior of the church, (planting flowers, etc.).
- Develope a service project that would bring honor to the saint/feast.
- Provide charitable undertakings that would bring honor to the feast.
